Before you start
- –A Mailchimp account with an audience for your quiz subscribers.
- –Access to create API keys in Mailchimp.
Connect Mailchimp to add every new quiz subscriber to a Mailchimp audience as soon as they submit your quiz. You can connect Mailchimp on any plan.
Before you start
You'll need a Mailchimp API key. In Mailchimp, open your profile, go to Extras › API keys and create a key. A Mailchimp key ends with a short code such as -us21; copy the whole key, including that ending.
Connect Mailchimp
- 1
Open Settings
Click Settings at the bottom of the app menu and scroll to Marketing integrations. In Shopify's own admin menu, this page is called SMTP Settings.
- 2
Paste your key
In the Mailchimp card, paste your key into API key.
- 3
Load your audiences
Click Load audiences. AISalesQ checks the key and loads your Mailchimp audiences. If the key isn't accepted, you'll see That API key was rejected by the provider.
- 4
Choose an audience
Under Audience / list, choose the audience new subscribers should join.
- 5
Connect
Click Connect. When it's done, you'll see Integration connected. and the card shows a masked key, the audience name and how many contacts have been synced or failed.
What is synced
- Each new subscriber's email address, added to your audience as subscribed.
- Their first and last name, if your quiz asked for them.
- Their tags, if they have any.
- Their phone number for SMS, if your Mailchimp audience has SMS marketing turned on.
- Changes in consent: when you unsubscribe or re-subscribe a contact in AISalesQ, or they unsubscribe from one of your emails, the change is sent to Mailchimp too.
Sending happens in the background a moment after each quiz submission, so it never slows your quiz down. If Mailchimp is briefly unavailable, AISalesQ tries again automatically.
What the statuses mean
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Not set up | Mailchimp isn't connected yet. |
| Connected | New subscribers are being sent to your audience. |
| Paused | You switched off the Active toggle. Nothing is sent until you switch it back on. |
| Action needed | Mailchimp stopped accepting your key. Quizzes still capture subscribers, but they aren't sent until you fix it. |
Fix Action needed
- 1
Update the key
Click Update key, paste a working key, click Load audiences, choose your audience and click Connect.
- 2
Or test again
If you fixed the key in Mailchimp itself, click Test connection. Once you see Connection verified., the status goes back to Connected.
Disconnect Mailchimp
Click Disconnect in the Mailchimp card. Your key is removed from AISalesQ. Contacts already in your Mailchimp audience stay there.
