- 01Add the shopper's name and quiz result with merge tags
- 02Include the shopper's quiz discount code as a link
- 03Show each shopper the products their quiz recommended
- 04Use merge tags in the subject line
Before you start
- –An email template (Create an email)
- –A published quiz that collects email addresses (Create your first quiz)
Merge tags and the Quiz products block fill in details from each shopper's quiz when the email sends. One template can greet every shopper by name and show the products their own quiz picked.
Insert a merge tag
- 1
Select a paragraph
In the builder, click a Paragraph block. Its text editor opens in the left panel, with the merge tags listed under Insert.

- 2
Place the cursor
Click in the text where the shopper's detail should go.
- 3
Click a tag
Under Insert, click a tag, for example Shopper first name. A placeholder such as {{subscriber_first_name}} appears in the text.
- 4
Save
Click Save in the toolbar.
Merge tags you can use
| Tag under Insert | Placeholder | Filled with |
|---|---|---|
| Shopper name | {{subscriber_name}} | The name the shopper gave in the quiz. If there's no name, the quiz's No name fallback is used, or the tag is left blank. |
| Shopper first name | {{subscriber_first_name}} | The first word of the shopper's name. |
| Shopper last name | {{subscriber_last_name}} | The rest of the shopper's name. |
| Recommendation title | {{recommendation_title}} | The title of the shopper's quiz result. |
| Recommendation copy | {{recommendation_copy}} | The description of the shopper's quiz result. |
| Recommended product | {{recommendation_product}} | The product named on the shopper's quiz result. |
| Discount code | {{discount_code}} | The shopper's quiz discount code, as a link that applies the code in your store. |
| Store link | {{automation_link}} | A link to your storefront. |
You can also type these placeholders by hand: {{shop_name}} for your store name, {{discount_value}} for what the discount gives (for example 20% off), and {{discount_expires_at}} for the date the discount ends.
Merge tags work in the Subject line too, for example: Your picks are ready, {{subscriber_first_name}}.
Show each shopper's quiz products
- 1
Add the Quiz products block
Open Content and drag Quiz products from the Shopify group into the email.

- 2
Choose how many and how they're laid out
In the block's settings, set Number of products and the number of Columns on desktop and mobile. By default it shows 3 products, in 2 columns on desktop and 1 on mobile.
- 3
Pick what each card shows
Turn the image, title, description, price, availability badge and button on or off, and change the Button text (the default is Shop Now).
- 4
Save and use it
Set the template to Active, click Save, then choose the template in an automation step.
In the builder, the block shows three sample products and the note Preview only — real recommended products render when the automation email is sent. Each shopper gets the products from their own quiz result.
Link buttons and images to your store
Select a Button or Image block and set its Link type to Automation link (store). The link then takes shoppers to your storefront.
